Osteopathy was first developed in the 19th century. Osteopathy is based on an established system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its emphasis on the structural (anatomical) integrity of the body. It recognises, therefore, that people can suffer pain and stiffness from abnormalities in the function (physiology) of the body as well as from disease. It is a holistic treatment that addresses imbalances throughout the body and how they can affect each other.

Osteopathy is a system of assessing, diagnosing, treating and preventing a wide range of health problems. Osteopaths are commonly known for helping to treat neck pain, back pain, general aches and pains and postural problems in patients from a variety of ages and causes. For example: driving, work strain, minor musculoskeletal sports injuries etc.
As an osteopath I take the time to try to understand my patients, and their unique combination of symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. This helps to make an accurate diagnosis of the causes of the pain or lack of function (rather than just addressing the site of the condition), and from that, to formulate a treatment plan that will aim to achieve the best outcome.
Osteopathy is a healthcare profession that utilises a patient focused, physical approach to restoring, maintaining and promoting physical and psychosocial wellbeing.
As a therapeutic discipline, osteopathy uses the application of joint articulation and gentle soft tissue techniques to release tight and irritated muscles, tendons and ligaments with the aim of relaxing them and reducing irritation in surrounding tissues. This treatment is intended to then result in a reduction of pain symptoms and thereby increase your range of movement.
As a registered osteopath, I frequently work alongside other health professionals, such as GPs, nurses and midwives as well as alternative medical practitioners.

"My husband was treated by Emma following an accident and now continues with routine maintenance which has been highly successful in keeping him mobile with his physical farming workload. Therefore, when during my pregnancy I developed pelvic girdle I turned to Emma. This was the best decision I made! I had weekly treatments from 33 to 39 weeks pregnant and the treatments quite literally got me walking pain free again. I am also sure that the treatments enabled me to have a straight forward labour and birth which was brilliant.
Emma is friendly and welcoming and extremely professional. We would not hesitate in recommending Emma."
